Recently, as reported by TMZ, Rapper Big Boi has challenged his estranged wife’s demands for sole custody of their young son by filing for joint physical and legal care. Big Boi whose real name is Antwan André Patton, is best known for being a member of American hip hop duo OutKast alongside André 3000. The OutKast star was married to his wife, Sherlita Patton for eleven years.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution,  Patton moved to end her eleven year marriage to Big Boi and filed a complaint in Georgia’s Fulton County Supreme Court. She claimed their marriage union is, “irretrievably broken.” She asked to be granted full custody of their son, Cross. But now Big Boi is fighting back, insisting the 12 year old would benefit from spending an equal amount of time with both parents.

Big Boi also responded to Sherlita’s demands for child and spousal support, declaring he is willing to pay whatever Georgia officials deem appropriate. However, in his legal papers, the rapper has also suggested that his ex-wife make use of her good health and education and get a job so she won’t have to rely on his money alone.

The pair’s split may not come as a shock to some. Last year, the Grammy Award-winner raised eyebrows on his track “She Hates Me,” which found the Atlanta rapper revealing some of the estranged couple’s martial issues. Patton addressed the song’s lyrics during a 2012 interview with Hip-Hop DX.

“I ain’t got sh** to hide. I’m human like everybody else. And sh**, my marriage and everything is great,” he admitted. “I’ve been with my woman for twenty years [total]. We’re going on our 11th anniversary come Valentine’s Day.”

Cross is the former couple’s only minor child; the Patton’s are also parents to an 18 year old daughter, Jordan.

They need to do away with child support altogether. Everybody gets paid off the daddy. Judges lawyers court administration child support offices and lastly hustling ass women.

I’m a woman and I must say I agree, If some these women where made to help take care of the baby’s they help bring into the world, they would stop trying to trap a brother for child support. Not saying that this is the case with Big Boi and his wife, but it does happen all too often.

Doing away with child support for married couples is a stupid comment. A child is entitled to childsupport from the non custodial parent. In marriage children are planned and wanted. In the babymama/babydaddy situation there shouldn’t be support for B@$tard kids. If a woman decides to have a child with a man she is married to no support from the bd or the government. That would greatly decrease our 73% of black kids born into single parent homes

That’s my point exactly. If we want to have less fatherless children (black in particular) significantly decrease the jail population. Stop rewarding irresponsible behavior and expecting different results.

Once Big Boi divorces his wife if the mother gets full custody then he should pay child support but the dude wants full custody and if he gets it he wont ask for support. But he is only obligated to support his son not a lazy ex wife looking for a pay day. Hope dude wins custody, when boys get up some size they need their fathers influence anyway.

Here’s a different perspective. Why not let father’s have custody if the mother is asking for child support (adult welfare). Since real men (father’s) would not even want child support. Would only want the mother to be a real mother to their child. I feel the government said come 2014 no more c.s. we would have the 1st million women ((not man) March on Washington. Crying….The gig is over.
