Teacher Locks 5 Year Old In The Closet And Leaves

By  |  22 Comments

390-closet-0116A Memphis teacher is accused of locking one of her kindergartners up in a closet and that’s only half of the story.

A.B. Hill Elementary teacher Kristin Ohsfeldt allegedly took the rest of the day off, leaving the little girl in the quiet and dark room all alone.  She reportedly told no one where the girl was.  According to Rashaentertainment.com, a substitute teacher found the frightened girl about an hour later.

There are just certain things you do not do with someone else’s child and this by far is one of those things.

The principal and mother filed a police report.  The most troubling part was the many children who voiced their experiences with similar actions committed by Ohsfeldt.  The report reveals the students told authorities “that this isn’t the first time that [their teacher] has done this.”

The victim in this particular incident is five-year-old Akeelah Joseph, who said her reasoning for being in the closet was punishment and that she feared no one would be able to find her.

“I was playing too much,” Akeelah mustered.  “I almost peed on myself if I didn’t make it the bathroom.”

According to Akeelah’s mother Wanda Joseph; it took the principal two hours from the time Akeelah was put into the closet to call her.  This is the first time the young girl has ever been in any kind of trouble.

The disappointed mother explained just how dangerous this situation was for her daughter.  “She was cold.  She came out cold and shaking.  Plus she has asthma.  She could have had an asthma attack in that closet,” said Mother Joseph.

Unfortunately, other teachers at the school may have learned their disciplinary tactics from Ohsfeldt.  According to the Shelby County School’s website, she was made the team leader of the school’s discipline program two years ago.

Unbelievable. The teacher should not be allowed to teach anywhere and the mother should sue the teacher and the school.

This cow should not be allowed to teach in any school again! If I were the child’s mother, the teacher, as well as myself, would be on an operating table in the hospital and they would be trying to get my foot out of her butt! No child should be put in a closet under any circumstances! They would have had one hell of a cover up had this child had an asthma attack and died!

There is a reason why she thought doing that was okay. Maybe it is part of the culture of the school that our kids are not valuable. If that was not the first time she did that to the children in her care, everyone from the top down needs to be disciplined.

Mr. Leonard, suspension is clearly the wrong choice of word in this context! This teacher’s action unquestionably amounts to criminality. As such, besides possible criminal prosecution, she should face immediate termination of her employment and a complete revocation of her teaching license. If I were her county’s district attorney, I would not entertain any idea of a plea deal on her behalf. I would request that she be incarcerated for at least three years in relation to the endangerment of the welfare of a minor, abduction, etc.. Anything short of three years would not adequately motivate her to comprehend the true psychological impact her action had on Akeelah and similar students.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens too often in our schools. Sometimes principals run their schools like prisons!! This teacher should be fired, prosecuted and never allowed to teach or be involved with children again. Obviously, she has some kind of mental problem.

The principal and the way she runs the school should be reviewed and charges brought if warranted. This is why parents should be involved with their school. Too often principals and school boards forget that they are paid by the people and should be accountable to them as taxpayers.

Not only should she be fired she should go to jail for child endangerment. This might have a psychological effect on this child for the rest of her life. The school should also pay for this child to get counseling.

Snatch the beotches teaching license and file criminal charges. Locking five year olds in closets is just wrong.

I don’t think you can lock your own 5 year up and leave your home. The parents and the local people should be Downtown pressing the prosecutor to go after the Teacher.

The teacher could be having a breakdown. That would be another issue.

It is so very sad that we have to entrust our children and grandchildren to this type of behavior. This for sure is a form of
child abuse in it’s truest form. This so called educator should be terminated, prosecuted, and banned from teaching and being around children in any type of environment. I wonder if she has children or grandchildren and how does she discipline them.

Charges should be Pressed against Teacher, Teacher should be arrested, School should be sued, Board of Education should be sued if they don’t Fire Teacher ASAP… and Teacher should go to JAIL! And live in the Boarding House (better known as jail) with females that have children …

Child needs to be loved and get counciled… Teacher gets loved and counciling from female Inmates…. She has serious problems… on a good day…she should Never be allowed around Children~

Taking her license and suspended her is too easy. I think in addition to that, her ass needs to be locked up in solitary confinement for a few weeks and see how it feels.
