Mary J. Blige’s father is reportedly in critical condition at a hospital in Michigan after being stabbed early Thursday morning.

Thomas Blige, age 63, was allegedly stabbed in the neck by his ex-girlfriend in a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in Battle Creek, Michigan. According to WOOD TV 8, Mr. Blige confronted his girlfriend because he believed she had slashed his car tires. According to his roommate, Mr. Blige could hear the air hissing from his tires from his apartment window.

When he ran out to check on his vehicle, he found his ex-girlfriend near the car with a knife, and all four tires on his SUV had been punctured. Mr. Blige confronted his girlfriend and she stabbed him in the neck and side. He returned to his apartment and bled profusely in the floor. His roommate tried to cover his wounds with towels until the paramedics arrived.

When police arrived to Mr. Blige’s apartment at the Arbors of Battle Creek they found he had three stab wounds, one of which was made to his neck.

Police arrested the girlfriend who they found in her own apartment wearing blood splattered clothing. She had apparently received a cut herself during the altercation. Police took her to the hospital to be treated before taking her on to jail, where she is awaiting her arraignment scheduled for Friday.

According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, Mr. Blige was rushed to the emergency room and had to undergo surgery at a hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. WOOD TV 8 reported that he is in critical condition.

This apparently was not the first time police have responded to domestic disturbance calls between the two. In fact, there are at least seven calls on record of domestic violence complaints related to Mr. Blige and his former girlfriend. In October, the ex-girlfriend pleaded no contest to charges of aggravated domestic violence against Mr. Blige and was placed on six months probation.

In previous interviews, Mary J. Blige has described her dad as a jazz musician and a Vietnam War veteran who suffered post-traumatic stress syndrome. Mary told Biography.com that her father abused her mother. “He left us when I was 4, but he’d come back from time to time and abuse her some more,” she reportedly said.

Wood TV 8 reported Thursday night that Thomas Blige’s condition has been ugraded from critical to serious, according to his roommate.

Pray all is well for him and family. We can’t continue to feed into a lie, meaning we can’t handle our differences with violence. Change must come and will. Stop it please. Guns, knives and ignorance are the number #1 things that is killing our families.

WOW, here we go again on facebook.. its the 63 year old BLACKMAN’s fault,REALLY blackwomen? REAL women don’t slash a man’s tires, throw bleach on his clothes, cut up his clothes or any other FELONY charge considered under the LAW. MEN need to START charging these *itches with when they do these ungodly and evil deeds of vindictive intent being MAD.

I’m like a Martin Lawrence when he said and meant it, “I won’t ever strike a LADY but I’ll beat a *itche’s a&&.”

Again, REAL WOMEN NEVER strike a man period, like REAL men don’t strike a REAL woman either.. either shouldn’t other than to defend shelf from being maned,or killed. This LIED that a man should never ever hit a woman? Really? Even if she’s trying to KILL me or mine? Really? The law said I have a RIGHT to defend self LEGALLY from a deadly threat or harm to my life no matter whom it may be..so we need to start getting REAL and stop promoting a fantasy LIE in reference to women whom do whatever against the law committing felony charges because she was hurt emotionally by a man.. MEN you just may be found DEAD because you didn’t defend shelf under the LAW.

I pray that Mr. Blige will survive and that he is receiving medical treatment for his post traumatic stress disorder, that could have been brought on by his time served for our country in the Vietnam War. Secondly a child remembers trauma at any age. Trust me I know I was also four years of age and nobody had to tell me anything I witness it first hand. You do remember the verbal assault, the physical abuse you remember it and you try to adjust and move forward in your life without think all men/women are like these people. Thirdly the lady seem to be the aggressor in this one incident. If you are currently on probation for six months why would you be letting the air out of someones else’s four tires with a knife and then stab them three times? She might be looking at jail time.

This man apparently likes ‘bad girls!’ It’s all he knows, but it can be a short existence and a merry one also. Life is much more valuable than engage in such nonsense. Speedy recovery to Mr. Blige.

I hope all goes well with him and as much as I feel violence is not the answer karma is something else. We also have to remember that we don’t know the full story. Because it’s not the first time and they continue to deal with one another, this appears to be an example of a very toxic relationship that has spiraled all down hill. NO ONE should have to suffer domestic violence.

Mary J. is my favorite. We know the violence that many women have went through during a relationship. For children to witness this is sad. I had nieces and nephews that went through the same. What is so usual that Mary J. would not remember. My relatives do and told me many stories that broke my heart, I went to court and got custody of them. The abuse of their mother and of them will be with them for life. Mary J. does not have to have anything to do with that man. His life is drama, she has seen enough. She can forgive him and move on. There is no need for her to involve herself in ongoing drama. Why look at her any different she is a wonderful, beautiful entertainer and needs to keep drama out of her life no matter who brings it. It sounds like her father was a sperm donor, not a father…..

The article also said she was the agressor in a previous incident She plead guilty and was given probation. So this DV went both ways. He clearly has history as an abuser too so who knows it was just his turn. They beating each other up!

Judge not lest ye be judged. Yea I quoted it. I never realized the necessity for this natural law until I read some of these mundane responses. Be careful. One day death will come for you. I hope for your sake the internet creeple don’t commence to throwing IGNORANT,HEARTLESS, verbiage as you lay in wait IN A HOSPITAL BED FIGHTING FOR ANOTHER CHANCE TO CORRECT YOUR LIFE’S AGGRESSION’S. Shaking my got damn head. Where in this hell is jesus when one needs him/her?

      Dear Catherine,
Jesus was at the same place he was when he asked both of these fools to accept salvation so as to avoid this foolishness! Now, take a seat. Thank you!
