A Mississippi man will spend life in prison for killing his wife’s ex-husband who was a police officer and another officer that responded to the scene of the shooting. The killing occurred in Memphis, Tennessee by Alexander Haydel who was visiting from Mississippi. Wmctv.com reports that an argument ensued and Haydel’s on Beale street and her ex-husband Memphis Police Officer Author Warren intervened and was subsequently shot and killed. Another officer responded to the scene, Timothy Warren (no relation) and he was killed by Haydel too. Judge Carolyn Wade Beckett agreed with the terms and sentenced Haydel to two consecutive life sentences without parole.

The first degree murders occurred in 2011. Apparently the Haydel’s came to visit Memphis for the 4th of July. With the group was his wife Bobbie’s ex-husband Author Warren. A drunken Haydel either hit or pushed his wife and Author Warren stepped in. They went back to the hotel and Haydel retrieved two hand guns from his car and accosted Warren on the hotel’s 9th floor. Timothy Warren was on his way to work and saw the chaotic scene and went to help fellow officers responding to the shooting. He too was shot and killed on the 9th floor.

Haydel told investigators that he used military tactics he learned as an infantryman while serving for the National Guard. Seeking high ground was one of the tactics.

Alexander Haydel has expressed remorse for the tragic occurrence and the defense offered two life sentences without the possibility of parole. Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said, “Avoiding a trial will save a lot of heartache for a lot of people.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are going to always be with the family. We’re just grateful that they didn’t have to relive this whole event or this whole nightmare for them throughout a lengthy trial,” said Armstrong. Officer Timothy Warren is survived by a wife and two children.
