One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions that rarely is completed is the pledge to workout more.  One New Zealand woman may have already started with a herculean effort to do her best Forrest Gump impression.

According to USA TodayKim Allan ran for 310 miles for a total time of 86 hours, 11 minutes and 9 seconds without stopping to sleep.  The distance broke the previous record which stood at 301 miles.  Many of you reading this must be thinking that Allan is insane but she says that was not the case at all.

According to The New Zealand Herald, the mother of four used the run to raise over $7000 for the New Zealand Spinal Trust.  Allan is still in disbelief at all of the  attention she is receiving, more so than completing the grueling run.

“It’s all a bit surreal at the moment. I’m going through some of the Facebook things on my page and when you see posts about a New Zealand woman beating the world record, I’m like, ‘oh my gosh, that’s me they’re talking about’,” Allan  said.

One big reminder of her record-setting run are the blisters that have occupied her feet. In fact, she had to cut off her shoes to tend those blisters as she was running. Another problem that Allan faced was the heat was present during her run. Her coach, Mark Gray, described the heat as a “problem” that caused her some “stomach problems.”

In addition to the blisters, Allan had to contend with bruised, swollen feet and ankles. Allan has downplayed all of her pain saying that she is “just a bit weary”.  While it is being reported as a new world record, the Guiness World Records staff have not adjudicated the record yet. Allan had a team close to her to monitor the distance and keep track of the mileage so it should not be long now.

Congratulations Kim Allan on your great display of toughness, strength and charity.
