Megamillions Winner Got the Money and Immediately Went Into Hiding

Lottery balls wait to be dropped prior to the lottery drawing for the Mega Millions jackpot, estimated at $636 million, in Atlanta, Georgia

by Brandon Simmons

Ira Curry did the first thing a lot of people should when they win a multi-million dollar lottery: hide. According to the New York Daily News, the 56-year-old Georgia resident and her husband have went into hiding after winning one of the two lottery tickets that were at an estimated $648 million.

Curry lives in Stone Mountain, Georgia but also has family in Bronx borough of New York City which is her actual birthplace. None of the sisters that stayed in their childhood apartment were available to be reached for any comments. As for Curry’s home, people haven’t noticed any movement inside the house and packages have been delivered to the home but left on the doorstep.

For Curry herself, it seemed like an award fitting for someone who maximizes their generosity. Neighbors described her as a woman with a big heart and not afraid to show it. Resident Revonia Cole said Curry once tried to return a stray dog to its owner. Another neighbor, Kaliah Ladler, told about the time she and her brother were locked out of their house and went to the Curry’s home. It was there where Ira‘s husband fed both of the kids until their mother came home.

Ira Curry is doing the smartest thing with her money outside of investing. When somebody hears that you’ve won a lottery jackpot of close to $650 million, a hand will be out for each dollar that you’ve won. She is probably hiding from thieves, so-called friends and “long-lost” family members. Better to hide from them than anything else, and keep hold of your money. The IRS is already going to take a big chunk of your money and you also have that “third cousin just so happens to need a new tooth” tax.

I know that’s right. I would hide too if I were in that situation. I wish her and her husband well….it’s dangerous out there. Especially for those with millions.

Girl, It REALLY IS NOT THAT SERIOUS TO HIDE! NOBODY IS CHECKING FOR YOU! LOL! And this is where black people make their mistake but are ALWAYS WILLING TO GIVE IT UP TO THE WHITE MAN! SMH! She will soon have to pay to have friends with that attitude! IN SHORT, NOBODY CARES WHEN THERE IS TURMOIL IN THIS WRETCHED WORLD AND PEOPLE STARVING! NEXT!

that’s not right. i’d go into hiding also, at least until “I” decide what to do with all of that money. Renee: it’s obvious you haven’t had much money. I won $100K on a scratch off. Before I even paid the tax man, relatives i hadn’t spoke to in YEARS came with their hand out. Some man even came to me and said I owed him for work he had done on my mother’s home before she died. She died 15 years before and all he had done was move furniture from one room to the next one! So, that little money I won was a drop in the bucket compared to what this woman won. There will be people out there trying to kidnap you; your relatives, etc. I don’t blame her. I’d just get away, decide what I’m going to do with that money and then begin to share. If you don’t think about what you will do, you will be the one who loses everything and those same people will try and look down on you even though you helped them.

You might want to check the statistics of lottery winners and mysterious deaths, accidents and murders. Several lottery winners have been stalked, their families threatened, etc. for a piece of the money they won.

You may think its not that serious be given the circumstances we are living in it’s better to just get your close family members and leave

She is doing the right thing and it has nothing to do with family or how and what she does with her money, she won it, not them! She needs time to digest the fact that she has won, as well as decide how she intends to hold on to it, such as investing, etc., right about now her phone is ringing off the hook, love ones she has not seen in the last ten years are suddenly ringing her doorbell. Yes, I would disappear for a while too. Smart woman!

@ Renee – A black man was murdered for his money after he won a big jackpot, no guarantee that some lowlife azz mofo wouldn’t try to hurt/kill her or her husband. She needs to move to another state, change her dayum phone number and start fresh. And check this out, her sisters had the nerve to be talking about as soon as they heard the news they started preparing to move out. Did sis even TELL them she was breaking them off something?? I wish I would win that kind of money. I’d break off a cool million EACH for mama, daddy, my brother and his wife, my grandparents, two best friends and THAT’S IT. I’d break off a nice chunk to my charities of choice, set up scholarships for DESERVING young black kids who are exceptionally bright and have great potential to do great things with their lives and do like Oprah did, build a school for children in a country in Africa where those kids really want to learn. After that, I’m packing my bags and moving to another state AND changing my phone number.

I think it is incredibly awesome that Ira Curry has won the Mega Jack Pot. $324 million. Early takeout $120 million. The wonderful words of encouragement from others that she being a kind hearted and giving person is maybe why the God of Heaven blessed her for the big heart she does have. I pray for safety, God’s grace & mercy on Ira,her husband & the entire family, close friends. If she is hiding it’s because she needs time to process this miracle. Her entire life has and will change forever. It will never be the same.

Mrs. Curry and her husband filed bankruptcy several years ago but was still living high on the hog on other people`s money. With her new found $ 120 million, she should pay off her creditors…….Then she will have the freedom to blow all that money….Old habits do not change. A fool and their cash will soon part! Now come the big money cars, bling bling, clothes, bigger house and expensive vacations, etc,.

How can one be so sure that the lady and her husband are hiding? If I were going to go into hiding then I would at least put my mail on hold and why would packages still be delivered to the house. Media should be mindful of posting stories which are based on assumptions and not fact – main problem with media/blogging/social media etc. I hope that she and her husband are in fact somewhere safe – at least out of the media’s eyes b/c media has a way of putting people in danger.

Yepyep, though I play the lottery, I do not need a long shot win to live a decent comfortable life. I worked all my life and managed a parttime business for 33 years. I own my co-op, my car is paid for and I never had to file for bankruptcy! I am a 7 year retiree with three pensions, etc,. I keep busy by investing as a venture capitalist into small startup minority businesses with potential. In addition, I am an adjunct professor of Business/Public Administration and Adult Education at a local college parttime. Money to me is just a tool to used to make more money…..and to provide a basic secured comfortable life. I do not owe anyone! Money does not make a person. It should be that a person should be able to make the money………

A smarter thing to do would have NOT shown her face to ANY media and ask that the Lottery NOT use her name or picture. Anywho, CONGRATULATIONS….. Its time for us to shine!
