Garcelle Bouvais who we remember from among other things the Jamie Foxx show, and Coming to America has two mixed sons. Beauvais who was born in Haiti, and was previously married to Mike Nilon who is white, divorced in April 2011.

When speaking about Tiger Woods refusing to categorize himself as black, instead choosing to refer to himself as “Cablinasian,” to acknowledge his Caucasian, black, Indian and Asian heritage.

Beauvais says people of mixed backgrounds should be free to embrace all of their cultural heritages.

Beauvais recalls blacks being outraged because Tiger didn’t want to refer to himself as black.

Beauvais states, “But I don’t know why anybody [of mixed heritage] should have to choose. Why should my kids have to dismiss their dad’s heritage because they have a black mum? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Why can’t people just be happy with what they are and not have to choose?”

This is an issue that often comes up when a person rises to fame, and is of multi-cultural descent. African Americans generally take issue with celebrities that do not embrace their African American culture, even if they are mixed race individuals.

Beauvais who has since divorced her husband, found out that her husband cheated on her and wrote an email; “Tiger Woods/Jesse James/Mike Nilon, what do they have in common … I found out today that MY husband of almost 9 yrs has been having an affair for 5 yrs with some sl*t in Chicago. I am devastated!!!! And I have been duped!! Our boys don’t deserve this!”

Needless to say we should expect for Garcelle to take this stance with a vested interest (her sons) and we wish her luck.
