Phaedra Parks Gets Backlash for Comparing Herself to a Hebrew Slave

After only one episode of the new season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, there’s already controversy surrounding one of the show’s stars, Phaedra Parks. During the show’s sixth season premiere, Parks made a comment about working harder than a Hebrew slave in reference to how hard she works to take care of her newborn baby Dylan. The comment sparked a bit of controversy, which is not unusual at all when it comes to this show. Parks apparently felt it was necessary to go on her Bravo TV blog to address the issue.

Parks gave a brief comment on how sorry she was about making the comment. She then went on to explain how she really felt.  Parks claimed that controversy and drama are an important part of the show.  She then said she did not mean to present the comment in a negative way.  The mother of two said the term is often used to refer to working long, hard hours without knowing when they’re going to end.

Parks said she knows that political correctness is expected in American society, but we can’t separate ourselves from historical references that we use in our conversation. According to the reality star, she did not intend for her words to be a racial and cultural slur. Apparently, she also wasn’t referencing “hurtful misapplications” of the language either.

Parks said she is a descendant of slaves and does not approve of any oppression or racism.  Her apology went on to say that she does not take the history of slavery lightly and that the battles that were fought and won for freedom are not a joke.

So, do you forgive her?
