Kerry Washington is gracing everyone’s home on Thursday nights with her hit show Scandal.  Now, on November 2, 2013 she will grace the stage as SNL’s host. Interesting enough, Saturday Night Live actor Kenan Thompson recently made a few disappointing comments about black women, and when TV Guide asked Kenan, what the show will do when the need to spoof a black female character arises,  Kenan Thompson told, “I don’t know. We just haven’t done them.” He added, “Maybe [Jay Pharaoh] will do it or something, but even he doesn’t really want to do it.”

Kenan continued, “It’s just a tough part of the business,” he tells TV Guide. “Like in auditions, they just never find ones that are ready.”

After Kenan’s recent remarks and the announcement of Kerry Washington appearing on Saturday Night Live—did SNL producers bring Kerry Washington on to make us black folk happy? Or did they just choose the perfect timing to announce her visit?

Kerry Washington being a host on SNL will not fix the disproportion of black faces on SNL.

There are 16 SNL cast members, 3 of those cast members are African American.  It is hard to believe that there isn’t a funny black female comedian that can hold her weight on Saturday Night Live.

Dr. Boyce Watkins founder of, recently responded to Kenan’s comments,

Kenan should apologize to all black women for his unfortunate and sloppy remarks.  SNL should also explain more thoroughly why black women have rarely been good enough for the show.   It’s not hard to argue that there is a race problem at SNL, since they’ve given us 38-years of proof that black women are not welcome on the show.
