A North Carolina woman nearly got away with murder after stabbing her husband, but was not the initial suspect in his death.

According to The Daily Mail, David Lokeith Worley was originally thought to have died in a car crash while traveling 90 MPH toward Spring Lake when his vehicle swerved to the left of the road. Worley’s car slid into a ditch culvert after flipping over several times. The car came to rest on its hood.

Worley was not  wearing a seat belt during the crash and was catapulted out of the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Carolina Highway Patrol suspected that Worley was involved in an unrelated incident involving a male who fled from a crime scene after being fired at, not too far away from the scene of the car accident. Authorities assumed Worley was the male being shot at.

Patrol officers looked over his body for gun shot wounds, but found none. Little did they know, Worley was covered in fatal stab wounds inflicted by his wife, 32-year-old Toni Marsha Talley.

After Worley’s body was taken to Unity Funeral Home in North Carolina, Worley’s relatives refused to believe that Worley died of injuries from the car crash. Because of their suspicions, Unity Funeral Home employee Vernon Peterson examined Worley’s body and found stab wounds on his back.

Peterson then alerted Harnett County investigators of his findings.

Officials from the state’s Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that Worley was stabbed with an eight-inch butcher knife and a wound to the neck that punctured his lung. The injury caused Worley to lose consciousness and control of his motor skills within an hour.

It has been reported that Worley and his wife Toni were fighting before Worley took off in his car and got into the accident. When Toni was arrested, police found gold nail polish that matched flecks found on a blood-soaked shirt found at the scene of the car crash.

Toni was booked and arrested at Harnell County Detention Center on first-degree murder and held on a $200,000 bond.

I am a bit lost here because it sounds as if someone dropped the ball. When they looked him over for bullet wounds, did they not notice the stab wounds???? When he went to the coroner’s office for an official cause of death, did he/she not look over the body to see the stab wounds to the back? No matter how you die, the coroner usually does a check of the body, especially in a car accident to see what or how the accident actually caused the death, ie. broken rib(s) puncture lung(s), severe head trauma, etc. No one but the person at the funeral home checked this man’s body out??? Really??? Thank goodness she didn’t have him immediately cremated or they would have never known. God bless and rest his soul. My condolences to his family.
