Former super star R&B group Destiny Child’s singer, Kelly Rowland covers the September issue of Essence magazine and sits down with the Essence team to conduct a candid interview. In the article, Kelly revealed that she is now in her “comfort zone” as far as her personal and professional life. However, Rowland discloses to the magazine that it took her some work to get where she is today.

“I used to be nervous about sharing my feelings ’cause I didn’t want anybody to judge me. But now I don’t care. Judge me if you want to. And as a matter of fact, it won’t even count, cause the only person who can judge is god,” said Rowland.

The interview went on to discuss Kelly’s detailed and eyebrow raising single released early June, titled “Dirty Laundry.” Dirty Laundry was Kelly’s opportunity to open up about her abusive relationship with a man who is still unknown, and her jealousy towards family band mate and “sister”, Beyonce.

The lyrics read: “When my sister was on stage killin it like a mother f***er/ I was enraged, feelin’ it like a mother f***er/ Bird in a cage/ You would never know what I was dealin’ with/ Went our separate ways but I was happy she was killin’ it.”

It is no secret that Kelly went through a tough time scrapping her solo career off the pavement while Beyonce shot to instant stardom, post Destiny Child’s split in 2004.

While the lyrics may seem a little “green-eyed-monster-ish,” Kelly maintained that even though she was jealous of Beyonce’s success, her struggle was much more personal than Beyonce’s stardom.

“For a long time I wasn’t happy, but that had nothing to do with Beyonce. That had to do with me trying to get my life in order and make better decisions for myself,” said the 32-year-old singer. “I’m seeing all these wonderful things happen for her and I am happy for her. But I want a path. I want things to pop off for me, too.”

Looking for a more “moderate measure of success,” Kelly claims she does not need to be on Beyonce’s level of fame just yet.

“Not on her level but whatever my level is supposed to be.”

Kelly’s most recent project is her album “Talk A Good Game”, released earlier this year but was not a huge success.

We wish Ms. Kelly all the best. Hopefully, she will not have to live in Beyonce’s shadow too much longer.
