Music legend Chaka Khan has joined with artists that are boycotting performances in Florida after the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial.

The legendary singer recently said, “I decided today that until the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again. As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.”

Several artists have vowed that they would not perform any concerts in Florida until the law was repealed including Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu and Wale. Others have been wrongly listed as participating such as Jay Z, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna.  Apparently, they love money too much to give it up for any kind of social cause.

Last year Chaka joined in with a concert done in tribute to Trayvon Martin, who died last year at the hands of George Zimmerman. The event was entitled “Super Life” and featured other R&B singers such as Kelly Price and Eric Benet. The diva also said that she would be willing to participate in another tribute for the slain young man as long it took place somewhere other than Florida. She also commented on her feelings concerning the trial and its outcome, stating that it was a “travesty” and that racism was not a distant relic of America’s but something that is “very much alive and well”.

The starlet was recently in her hometown of Chicago, IL to commemorate the unveiling of a street that has been named after her, Chaka Khan Way. It’s good to see artists taking a stand against injustice but some feel as though this boycott will negatively affect the fans and isn’t fair. Lil Mo’ spoke out saying, “Ever since the verdict, a certain artist is boycotting the state of Florida. The fans don’t deserve to be deserted”.

Maybe Lil Mo should remember that the fans can either go to concerts in another state or buy the CD for their favorite artist.  Sounds like he might be making an excuse to get his money.
