Tyler Perry’s latest film “Temptation” came out over the weekend and has been garnering excellent reviews and grossing much more than expected. Temptation came in third in the box office’s highest grossing films of the week. That was not easy feat considering that “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,”“The Croods,” and the adaption of another one of Stephenie Meyer’s novels, “The Host” were his competitors for the number one spot.

Perry’s film attracted audiences in droves just as large, if not larger than, “G.I. Joe” in local cities throughout the nation. Perry’s film has enough spark to make audiences become entranced with the storyline and really try to piece it together before everything is revealed.  Analysts projected a weekend gross of $21.75M for “Temptations.” The Lionsgate distributed film is reported to have only cost $20 million to make.

The film is very well written and the story can definitely stand toe to toe with other classic thrillers such as “Fatal Attraction” and “Basic Instinct.” Deadline.com says “Temptation” will be the highest grossing Perry-directed film in which he did not appear as an actor. Generally speakings, Tyler’s crossdressing character Medea has been his biggest film, but this could be the 2nd highest grossing non-Madea film.

“Temptation” is Tyler’s 10th film and 9th as a director to open over $20M. Cccording to distributor Lionsgate, Perry was trying for a more s*xualized movie “to freshen the Tyler brand,” thus challenging his “dramedy” fanbase.

If you saw the film, what do you think about it?
