Police are saying that a six-year old boy was found holding a gun shortly after his 4-year old sister was fatally shot.   The incident took place inside the car owned by the grandparents of the two children.  The little girl, Rahquel Carr, was airlifted to the hospital, but died on the way.

Police are saying that they are not entirely sure that the boy pulled the trigger, but it has been reported by the Miami Herald that the boy was seen with a gun shortly after the shooting took place.  The girl had been living with her grandparents at the time of the incident, and the shot hit the girl in the head and chest.

“We will be looking at who the firearm belonged to,” Miami-Dade Police Detective Roy Rutland told WPLG, “where the firearm was in the vehicle at the time, along with who was present when this child was shot.”

Police say that they believe that an adult was nearby when the shooting took place.  Reports are that the girl’s mother was the one who was there when it happened.

“Sometimes kids don’t know the difference between a real and a fake gun,” neighbor Michael Hardaway told The Miami Herald.

“It’s just hard to think about. The whole neighborhood is torn up about it.”

The night before she was shot, Rahquel went to the Miami-Dade Fair Expo. She and her brother rode the kiddie rides together.
