Madam Prezident

Madam Prezident of says that the ladies should all be very excited because, for the year 2013, Your Black World and Madam Prezident have teamed up to deliver you all the very best in all of America. Below are her views about African American Meteorologist, Rhonda Lee, and her termination:

I am really, really disturbed about this situation that has been ongoing on the news, on the radio on the blogs and on CNN; this situation about the African American Meteorologist, Rhonda Lee, and her termination from KTBS, which is a new station in Louisiana.

This situation is unbelievable. I don’t know what the hell Rhonda is doing in Louisiana. We want her out of there. Get out of Louisiana! However, the new station determined that Rhonda Lee had violated some form of policy by making a comment on Facebook after she was, of course, wrongfully disrespected on the KTBS Facebook fan page. There is a guy on there who  made a comment about her hair, saying that Rhonda looks terminally ill. He also said that she acts as if she has cancer because she wears a small Afro.

Of course, Rhonda Lee, politely informed this man that she’s not terminally ill. She let him know that that some people may prefer the European look but she doesn’t. She’s very proud of who she is and how her hair grows. She also said in some places and for some people, their hair grows downwards. She said, about  African American people, that our hair has a tendency to grow upward and that  she’s very proud of that.

I just want to say “Sister, I stand behind you! Yes that is the truth.” Yes African American people, the majority of us have hair that grows outward and there’s nothing wrong with that. What she did was absolutely right. She let this guy know, you that his accusations were incorrect, ignorant and she corrected him in a very polite way.

But that wasn’t the reason she got fired. That is what is so controversial about the situation. There was another guy who made a comment on KTBS’s Facebook page and what he basically  said was that the three minute segment of kids being able to shop at Walmart, which is a contest they do at KTBS, had a racial bias. He said that everybody that has been picked for the 3 minute segment was basically a person of color. Rhonda Lee again, of course, corrected him and said they just pick people at random and assured him that there were no favorites or anything like that. She said that it was for children and she just hoped that it really didn’tt matter what color the children were. Again, she corrected someone in a very polite way.

Is Rhonda Lee wrong? Should they have terminated this woman? She has been treated very unfairly and Madam Prezident and Your Black World are very unhappy about the injustice of Rhonda Lee.

Now, there is a counterpart to this because I do work for a company myself and we have a policy. I don’t know if it’s a written policy or not, but when we started the Facebook launch at my company, they were very clear that they do not want us responding to negative comments. They made it very clear that we are not to respond in any way or reference to anything so Rhonda Lee put herself in a position where she internalized KTBS. People have comments about KTBS and she has to realize that this is people talking about KTBS. Anyone who has eyes and  anyone who has ears may say something that you’re not going to agree with. You cannot go around correcting everybody in America. You cannot go around correcting everyone and trying to make people feel what you feel. You can’t go around dropping knowledge on people or just to everybody, it’s not going to happen. You just can’t reach every soul that way.

So the question remains- is Rhonda Lee right or is Rhonda Lee wrong? Did KTBS take it too far by firing her? I want to know what you all are thinking about this situation because Madam Prezident believes that KTBS messed with the church’s money; yes they have! You all go ahead and talk about this- I’m out.

You all know where to find me: Click the contact box and you can hit me up, leave an e-mail. Here’s all love to you. Do what you do but most of all have a blessed day and I’m out.

I work in television as well and we all know that you are not suppossed to respond negativly to viewers. Viewers can be harsh and overly rude. The same station fired one of her white male co-workers for responding to comments from viewers. I wish that her station would have taken the stance of another anchor at another station who’s employer stood behind her when she got on live t.v. and told a rude viewer how unfair that he was in his ridicule about her being overweight. I’m sure this sister will find a job at a station that stands behind their employees but at the same time you have to follow the rules.

That is the problem, whenever it comes to black women, nothing is to be said in her defense, had she’d be white, the response would have been different and you know it.

Hello to all, first i would like to say i’m a native of louisiana and i just so happen to live in the city in which ms lee was terminated. so to be honest i take this one a little more personal because this is a stain not just on ms lee but on the injustice the we still face no matter where you live from louisiana all the way to mars we still have to deal with ignorance. now to answer the question were she wrong or not and did ktbs take it too far the answer is clear. she’s not wrong for correcting both individuals. my question is why is it wrong to respond to a person or persons in educating them on what’s really going on when they make false accusations? we all know that social media is everyone’s outlet. facebook, twitter, instagram etc etc is a tool that people use to help or hinder. if we ignore people that make false accusations i trully believe that there will be more that will believe what that person or persons have said or have to say. if your response is ignorant or offensive i understand but if you correct someone politely and intelligently what’s the problem with that? ktbs stated that she violated a policy but the policy she violated isnt put into writting from another article i read it stated ktbs had a meeting approx a month ago and they informed employees about this policy change now according to the article ms lee wasnt there at the meeting which we all know if a company comes out with some type of policy change or addition they usually follow it up with some form of letter or email to confirm everyone is aware of this change even if its for the mere fact that someone like ms lee may have missed the meeting for whatever reason. so they’re at fault for trying to stand behind a policy of hearsay. i could even stand behind ktbs if this were a situation where ms lee became arguementive and her and the persons went back and forth about the situation but no they made a comment she responded end of story!

She should have kept quiet about the comments is KTBS had this policy. Otherwise, I do not see why polite corrections of pathetic ignorance should not have been corrected. But you cannot go around correcting everybody in America.
Point- hair that grows downwards is not just European. It is Asian, too.

I see that you are right Madame Prez. It’s a good policy not to comment on negative statements. You just can not drop knowledge on ignorant people some will never get “it”. I think the station did take it to far in
All sales subject to our Return and Warranty policiesfiring her. Also I might add she is a very beautifully lady and in no way how can one say, ” she looks terminally sick”? One thing she did do is answering those critics in a respectful way. Bee all know comments in social media can get very ugly. Too bad for her KTBS did not have the same policy do not respond to negative comments. Hopefully she will get her job back or get one that is even better.

Her comment to the viewer was not belligerent or offensive. So, why fire her?
