Community Baffled by Murder of Chicago Beauty Salon Owner

45-year-old Yolanda Holmes was shot and killed Sunday morning in her building in uptown Chicago. The beauty shop owner, who was struck by a bullet sometime after 5 a.m., is being mourned by her family and friends. The police have yet to charge anyone for her murder. Holmes ran a salon Uptown called Nappy Headz Salon and was well known in the area.

Her loved ones are distraught and heartbroken in the wake of her death. Holmes was active in her community, using her salon as a place for young students to host back-to-school parties and other community events. On Saturday night, Holmes had hosted a birthday party for two of her co-workers, Anderson and Rey.

Holmes loved to exercise and eat healthy as well as travel. She had travelled so much that she had filled her passport two or three times. Yolanda’s younger sister, Yunae Holmes, cried as she informed family members of her sister’s death Sunday morning. The police had gone to Yunae’s home earlier to tell her that her sister had been killed. Dassin Wallace, who lives in the same building as Holmes, claims that she heard gunfire. Later in the day Wallace discovered blood in the stairwell, blood that most likely belonged to Holmes. Colleagues and friends are praying and seeking closure in her murder case.

  1. They’re killing up people in Chicago and paying them to kill one another to set it against Pres Obama’s record and because they consider Chicago to be “Ni&&er Capital.” It’s a bunch of political c**p when you start killing innocent people for no reason and it isn’t even so much as a drive-by, but intentional. Do not be shocked if you find the neo-n**i’s behind this … or the Klan … or even the Koch Bros. They are capable of anything. May God reveal these atrocities to us soon and let heads roll the moment He does.

  2. You know what President Obama, have nothing to do with the murder in Chicago, but he never did anything to help stop it either.
I wrote him and asked him to just take a minute out of his day and tell the young black youth to pull their pants up. He never did, that simple statemenr would make some of the think about it, and some may even pull their pants up. But he was too bust kissing whit folks a***s, to think about young black men.He had something good to tell the Mexicans, he had something good to say to the Jews, but he never had time for black folks. He said he was not the President of the African American communities, he was elected President of these United States. And he is right, but isn’t the African American a Part ofhis constiruency?.

Anyone concerned about violence in Chicago should be aware of the trial of Vicente Zambada-Niebla. We know crack cocaine began to flow into Southern California during the Iran-Contra scandal and that the introduction of crack into the Afrikan American community led to an explosion of violence.

[In court documents, Zambada-Niebla says that DEA agents allowed him and other leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel to operate their drug business without interference.

Based on the alleged agreement ”the Sinaloa Cartel under the leadership of defendant’s father, Ismael Zambada-Niebla and ‘Chapo’ Guzman, were given carte blanche to continue to smuggle tons of illicit drugs into Chicago and the rest of the United States and were also protected by the United States government from arrest and prosecution in return for providing information against rival cartels which helped Mexican and United States authorities capture or kill thousands of rival cartel members,” states a motion for discovery filed in U.S. District Court by Zambada-Niebla’s attorney in July 2011.]

If the allegations of Zambada-Niebla are true, and it’s certainly consistent with the actions of the United States government this could be Iran-Contra déjà vu.

Rest In Peace baby girl, we’ll see her again tho! GOD is good! We are in a severe recession people, this is no set up against the president! Its a jungle out there, and its serious! Go home, lock ur doors, let Satan and his followers lurk in the night by themselves. People get killed when its dark out mostly! It’s not fair that we can’t hang out, but its all about safety, and sustaining life! Be careful out here, its only gonna get worse!

I’ve visited Chicago several times over the past year (live in Indianapolis, IN) and have too, notice a significant change. It appears to me to be more like “class warfare.” The Haves, flaunting their wealth in the face of us common folks in “Hard Times,” along with a crack cocaine epidemic, well what more can you expect to happen. Politicians may not be the answer to the problem. They only make promises they cannot keep. There needs to be another way of holding them accountable since we use a “democracy” as our means of choosing them.

The system has been manipulated to a point where we will loose control and elections become meaningless.

  8. It is so sad that her beloved and only son had her killed for money.
Obama had nothing to do with anything.
Greed from her own offspring is such a curse.
Sometimes Our worst enemies is our own blood ken-folks.

I have alot of unanswered questions about this particular case! Its so very sad it was her child I am a mother baby and I lost my mom to cancer in 2012 and life is not what it once was for me. I’ve followed links on qc Facebook and his mom jus to put links together between the two, but there’s nothing. Their relationship is almost none existing so many people said she was a great mom but I don’t see no bandage between them ever not even years before her death. He never say thank you mom love you, I miss you, or nothing.. Than I see it say Yolanda offspring on her page and I’m not sure if that’s normal or not. My mom never identified us as her offspring, we were her babies, her heart, her world! There relationship had alot of holes and strings in it.. I just want to understand it all! If money was the only relationship they had then thts why it was so easy to kill her. I hate that whole story its heart breaking, but my main question is was their relationship based solely on money or was their an actual mother and son bond there?
