Tyler Perry Cancels “Madea” Tour, Tells Fans ‘I Don’t Tour To Make A Living’

Tyler Perry took to his blog for a strongly worded post.

Tyler Perry

The multi-talented screen writer and playwright/producer/actor, etc., Tyler Perry, took to his own blog to apologize to his fans for canceling the final “Madea” tour that was scheduled for this fall/winter.  It’s apparent that Perry has been facing some recent challenges. First, his Atlanta studio was burned for the second time second, the Atlanta Police officers that he accused of racial profiling were exonerated following a recent investigation; and finally, he is now forced to cancel his final “Madea” tour from what appears to be some sort of corruption from the promoters. Tyler Perry just celebrated his 43rd birthday on September 14th, in which he took to his Facebook fanpage and thanked his fans for the warm birthday wishes. It appears that his birthday excitement has worn off as he expresses his disappointment with people in the blog post below.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances that I can’t control, we’ve had to cancel this leg of the “Madea Gets A Job” tour.

Here’s why. I set a ticket price for the show starting at $25. The reason I set the price so low is so that everyone could get a chance to come out and see the show. I know how tight things are right now. I GET IT! I do not tour to make a living, I tour because I love staying connected to all of you. I love seeing your faces, hearing you laugh and seeing you enjoy yourselves. It gives me great joy. Even though it’s a lot of work, I really don’t mind doing it. Because of that, what I do is make sure that the promoter sets a reasonable ticket price and the prices are $25, $45 and $65. Even though I set these prices so that they are affordable, fees are added that are out of my control and the price of the tickets can almost double. Add to that, when you go online looking for tickets, IN LOTS OF CASES, you are being led to a bootlegger and you don’t even know it. There are a lot of ticket bootleggers and scalpers that buy lots of shows and sell them to the public for double, sometimes triple the price. I’ve been dealing with this for years but now with the internet I’ve never seen it this bad.

Also, there are some horrible people who are pretending to be me or representing me on Facebook and charging people money to do a meet and greet on the tour. They are telling people that they are me or working for me and charging them $150 for a meet and greet after the play.  DON’T FALL FOR THIS!! That’s not me.

This is so frustrating! Why are people so evil? Why can’t people just get legitimate jobs and stop trying to do the wrong thing all the time? If they put the same amount of energy into doing the right thing as they do in doing the wrong thing they could make it. It’s so sad.

To all of you who have bought tickets and made plans to be there I am so sorry. I really am but my hands are tied.

This was the last live Madea tour and I’m super sorry that you won’t get to see it live. All refunds should be given back to you.

Thats why I HATE THE SAYING that goes – you can do and become all and anything you want to do and become. There’s always haters, roadblocks that won’t allow it to happen. But then that is is why I am training my mind to live in the prophetic vibration. People IRK me at times. Living in the natural can be chaotic…therefore I keep my head to the skyy! Amen. OH well Tyler…something good will happen – you are a good person.

Love, love, Love u Tyler. This show was the best ever. Last saw u at the Liaqurious Ctr. In Philly. Well I must say, u keep ur haters working overtime. I was listening to Steve Havey a few day ago and he was telling a similar story. I’m not a huge Harvey fan but those inspirational moments will sure get u goin and let u know u aren’t the only one and its up to u how u gonna deal with it. I know u are deeply religious so go there!

  5. Tyler, I have a solution for you that you and your team should look into. We are a nonprofit organization looking for a funding source that can help sell your tickets at the price you want and you can donate a certain amount to our organization that can be a tax deduction to you. Please look at this. I can be reached at 843-986-1102.

His new movie is coming out and he needs to focus on that being a success. Im not mad mind you because I don’t see his shows, but all the things he illustrated have been going since (fill in the blank) . He’ll probably be a good plitician he hit all the emotional buttons in posting , very cool.

The key word is PROMOTERS, who are probably euroPEEan khazars! Y’all know they CONTROL the money!

They wanted to USE and MAKE all the money they could OFF OF BLACK PEOPLE. They know the majority of the audience would’ve been Black and females. I don’t go to the movies or plays; therefore, I don’t care what he does, but he was trying to help his people, that didn’t have a lot of money to pay for the tickets. The culprits are the promoters; not him.

This should make him strive a lot more harder in producing some QUALITY films, and he could hire his OWN PEOPLE, and not DEPEND on these yankees, who are riping not only him off, but the rest of those Black folks in hellyweird [hollywood].

How many caucasoid males are running around here wearing dresses in a movie? Perhaps, he will chalk this up as experience, and move forward to HIRE some Black Men to play some MEANINGFUL roles, and Black women, who ain’t shaking their behinds, just for a dollar!

A GOOD MOVIE, I WOULD LIKE FOR HIM TO MAKE, WOULD BE THE LIFE AND DEATH OF NAT TURNER!!!

No doubt about it I am all man and have no quorums with Br Perry’s productions. Granted I am not a big fan, but I support his work… he uses his influence to put out positive messages for those that will listen. Praise G’d for that! Everything has an appointed time. Nothing last always; life, relationships, and including Madea. I’m sure Br. Perry would like to be remembered for more than playing the part of Madea. We should all support him and other’s in our community trying to make a positive difference.

Now for Br. Muhammad, you bear the name “one worthy of praise.” I make the assumption that you are a Muslim. As Muslims everyday we strive to merit the true meaning of our name. It is a reminder of what we should be. I say that to say in an earlier response you could have been more intelligent in articulating what you wanted to convey without behaving like a hoodish negro. We don’t tear our people down, we build them up. Each of us as an individual is an example of what we as a people are about. Be the example brother.

I have never seen any of your plays. I have seen the Madea movies, however. I hope that you stop making them as well. They have no artistic value and are quite moronic. They have propelled you to a level where you can now do some quality work. I doubt if you can. 15 minutes are up!

I can understand all sides on this blog, but you must understand that this beautiful brother gets jobs for his people!! You must give him a standing ovation for that!!! I love Mr. Perry, he cares about his race. Those of you that are speaking negatively on how he does it “What Are You Doing For The Black Race”!!! Ms V

Black people are their own worse enemies. Always trying to knock down a professional and successful producer, director, actor, like Tyler Perry. Did you watch the Emmy Awards tonight? How many black shows or actors or actresses did you see? How many black shows were nominated for an Emmy? Keep putting each other down. Pretty soon the presence of black actors and actresses will be gone.

  16. O So True

I agree with you, Princess, 100%. Black people always tear one another down whenever one of them becomess successful. Another problem that we have is seldomly does one who has reached the top reach back and pull another up. If you look at TV in general, there may be one or two people of color sprinkled here and there throughout some of the mainstreamed shows on the major networks. However, there are several comedies on the cable networks. Some of the comdedies are meaningful while others are distasteful and leave a lot to be desired.

Tyler Perry brings humor and stories that are related to real life situations.

To All of My Brothers and Sisters,

I would like to say first to,Mr. Tyler Perry “you keep right on doing what you have been called to do and you do it well. I know that God has brought you from a mighty long way. I want you to know that I had never seen one of your plays or movies. I traveled to a city where your play was being presented and I really didn’t want to go, because I was in terrible pain with a serious illness, selling my home, going through a divorce and losing my job and the rest is history. But, I did attend the play and I laughed and laughed (laughter is good for the soul) after the play I wanted to go out and eat and to this day I watch and wait for anything that you bring to the stage or screen. So, I want to “thank you” very much for the laughter for with God and laughter I made it through and since wrote my own play. May God continue to Bless you because GOD is moving you to another level as a producer I saw that in GOOD DEEDS. What a great movie where I laughed and cried. The part where you stated, “Go and tell Mastera” was great. So, remember greater levels the greater the devils. I learned early in life you can’t make everybody happy. Please don’t allow them to use you or control you. Thanking you for taking a stand and standing for something – love the haters anyway -the more blessed you will be you know the word. So, I await your next movie I know it will be awesome. Blessings to you.
AND now to the haters it’s ok you have the right to your opinion, but let us learn some kind of respect. You and I know that if Tyler Perry came to town and offered you a JOB you would it and the MONEY that goes with it. As a Community Organizer I see the negativity, the backbitting, lies aganist one another and the pain it has caused and it’s so very sad. We are the only race of people that put each other down. Nobody has said anything about Mrs. Doubt Fire, Robin’s objective was to get people to laugh and look at how divorce works when you still want to be in the picture and then he took his money to the bank. I would challenge you all to PRAY for one another and show some LOVE – it give will give you peace. Remember the good things that Tyler Perry has done for so many people and then ask yourself,”What have I done lately to help SOMEBODY.” and then read Psalms 37 – ” Fret not thyself because of evil doers for they shall be cut down” and then take a good look into your SOUL and find out what is the real root of your own anger aganist this MAN. Trust me you will find healing and something to do and say POSITIVE when you chose to speak again. And let us learn to be MORE POSITIVE about People and Life. PEACE and BLESSINGS
