You Go Girl: Logan West Named Miss Teen USA

Logan West, am 18-year-old from Connecticut, was crowned the 2012 Miss Teen USA. The competition took place on Saturday night in the Bahamas.  West is not just a beauty queen, she is also an intelligent and hard-working young woman that every parent would be proud of.  She is also the first contestant from that state to win the title in the pageant’s history.

“I’ve never met a challenge that I could not beat,” said West in an interview with the Miss Universe Organization. “Whenever I hear the words ‘You can’t,’ I repeat the words ‘Yes, I can!’”

West named Aaliyah and Whitney Houston as her inspiration. West, who recently graduated from a performing arts high school plans to study dance at Fordham University or Pace in New York and wants to join the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.

The teen’s cause is the fight against bullying. West said that as a teen, she too was bullied. In an effort to end bullying, she created a program called “Bully Proof: Empowering Children Today to Prevent Bullying Tomorrow.”

Her five-step program aims to empower student leaders and to prevent bullying at schools. She has visited schools in her area to speak out against bullying and with her new title, she’ll have the chance to spread her message across the U.S.  Logan appears to have a bright future ahead of her and she is certainly making all of us proud.

I missed this program because there was little or no announcement in the newspapers, before or after the event. If some caucasian had won there would have been a picture of her in the newspapers the next morning. Ah, such is life in the USA.
