First Lady Michelle Obama got up close and personal with the US Olympic men’s basketball team this week. After the team posted a 98-71 victory over France, the first lady was there to give hugs to every member of the team, heightening her status as a lady of the people.
Mrs. Obama got applause from the crowd and the players took this opportunity to show their patriotism. After shaking hands with the team they’d just manhandled, they turned to the first lady to greet her as well.
LeBron James was the first to hug the first lady. After that, every single player walked up and got a hug from Mrs. Obama.
“I would say Michelle Obama is ‘the First Fan’ here in London,” said NBC Sports announcer Bob Fitzgerald.
Even rookie sensation Anthony Davis got a hug from the first lady after everyone else was done, followed by coach Mike Krzyzewski and his assistants.
Kevin Durant led the team with 22 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
“It’s crazy, man,” Durant said. “I’m just happy I’m here.”
This was just a day after the first lady showed up to cheer for Serena Williams as well.
