Actress LisaRaye

Actress LisaRaye recently sat down with writers at BE Magazine to discuss dating, acting, and reality TV. The actress expressed a bit of frustration with reality TV stars- saying they’re taking money out of her pocket. Ironically, she had her own reality show titled “LisaRaye: The Real McCoy.” Excerpts from the interview are below.

Her dating life:
I am a single lady. I can’t really say I’m looking for him; I just want to bump into him. I want to be surprised. I want to be swept off my feet like…is that, could that…why it’s him! I want that whole thing with the music playing in the background and everything…

Being referenced as her previous characters:
People call me Diamond all the time. It ranges from Diamond to Niecy to now Keisha. People in the grocery store will call me Keisha & I look around like “who me?” They reply with “girl you know that’s you…”

Her perception of reality TV:
You know what’s so funny is that I was actually a part of one of the first reality shows on Bravo called ‘The It Factor’. It was so much fun. Now, reality shows have really gotten out of hand. I am offended by it somewhat because being an actress, I’m now competing with Reality TV stars on TV and in my pockets…

She can’t be serious. Don’t she know that ad revenues are down and trained actors are high priced? Networks are trying to increase their bottomlines with all the influx of new networks. Realty stars are cheap but still guilty pleasures. Though I hate reality tv, it’s all about business.

She didn’t say she did not understand why networks find reality shows so appealing. She merely stated the fact that it does take work away from people “serious” about the craft of acting. For networks the dollar is the bottomline but artistically speaking television has dumbed down just like the music business. Talent no longer matters. As for her acting skills, yeah I’ve never thought Lisaraye was a good actress. I don’t think she’s awful either. Matter of fact I think she’s gotten better over the years. At least she tries.

  5. Did Lisa forget she had her own ghetto reality show now it’s the pot calling the kettle black. She has no acting skills what so ever if she did she would have been on a major Network like ABC NBC or CBS or HBO instead she’s on single Ladies another low class show produce by VH1 with the likes of Basketball Wives and single ladies has no substance at all three women running around looking for the next man to screw talking ghetto talk nothing classy about that show at all so until she’s cast in a major movie or a primetime show on T.V.not cable then she has no room to talk.

You can take the girl out of the ghetto but you can’t take the ghetto out of the girl.. having said that I think Lisa Raye has matured and grown alot over the years and her acting skill are better than some of these newcomers I’ve seen even on prime tv. I say kudos to her for still being in the game and able to get work. She is real and down to earth and that’s what I like about her, she possess a level of confidence many women wish they had and she’s never been afraid to claim her blackness and hood like mentality when necessary. She’s able to wear many hats and use them accordlingly, you gotta at least respect her grind. We need to be more supportive and embrace our culture good, bad or indifferent. Everyone has flaws and there’s always room for improvement and she certainly has improved is my feeling. IJS…
