Mary J. Blige is Planning to Play the Wife of Malcolm X
Mary J. Blige is planning to take on a major new project playing the wife of the late Malcolm X. Blige is going to portray Betty Shabazz in a TV film called “Parallel Lives,” which focuses on the lives of Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King, along with their two famous husbands.
Blige says she’s studying the life of Shabazz to prepare for the role and looks forward to doing more acting in the future. She has already appeared in the Tyler Perry film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” and is now taking acting lessons. She has coaches in a multitude of areas to help her get to the top of her game.
Blige said this to Chelsea Handler:
“Even though I was given the part in ‘Rock of Ages,’ I wanted to prepare myself so I went to work for it,” said Blige. “I just didn’t want to get the part because I was Mary J. Blige. I went and did the work, I got an acting coach.”

Oh Please! while I can understand her wanting to expand her horizons, and I am sure she can pull off the role, but this makes it even harder for legitimate actresses, who do not enter into the hip hop world, taking or competing with performers such as Blige. I think Mary J. Blige is hignly over-rated. While she is good, she needs to maintain her uniqueness, there’s no other singer with her style or appeal, and I think that works for her. I noticed that she appears to envy Beyonce’s look, she now has the puffy blond hair, glamorous gowns, etc. However, I do like the style change as far as the glamour, but she needs to get her OWN Look, and fashion sense. Be Unique, distinguish herself from Beyonce, and just be herself, while at the same time, continue to reach for whatever other goals she sets out for.

I would hope that this is not a watered-down biopic of a woman married to a self-educated “invisible man” that brought light to the overt racism of America and the opposing views he shared with MLK. White writers will do this in Hollywood and do what they do best, change truth into candy-coated “white” lies.

Mary J Blige wore her hair blond and pinned countless hair styles many, many, many years before Beyonce. FYI, she is not taking roles from other actors, we all have to audition. To perfect the character. we also get training.
